Today we made a Teepee. We didn't follow a tutorial or do any research (unusual for me), we just selected some good long pieces of wood from a pile, and bound them together with string. We used bamboo between the lengths to strengthen the structure, and finished off by wrapping and old bedsheet round the outside.
Then there were head dresses to be made, war paint to be applied and a fire circle to be created.
Of course, where there are InJuns.....
....There are Cowboys (In this case "the long arm of the law" as Eb has recently read a book about the Wild West that mentions the Texas Rangers. He felt they were far cooler than Sherrifs, but couldn't really explain why.
Things then went off on a tangent, and Eb cast his Cowboy accessories aside to put on some Roman armour, and before I knew it, the Romans were attacking the Indians.
However, no one had counted on the wind which suddenly burst forth, knocking down the Teepee and causing no end of drama. Luckily the warring factors called a truce, ate some gingerbread and worked together to rebuild the tent.
All is happy once more.

The beauty and innocence of childhood. I used to love playing the part of a Cherokee princess as a child. There are several reservations around here and many more Native Americans that don’t live on reservations. I wonder what your children would think of Native Americans today. I have a dear friend with a full white head of hair and a matching beard who is full blooded Native American and looks nothing like the stereotype. Take care.
