indoorsy

The pittar-patter of rain requires some creative thinking of the indoors variety.

We've been making a list for a while of things we would like to do, make and play when the rain comes. It made the turn to colder weather a time for the children to look forward to. When ideas came, they would be scribbled in a book. From specifics such as "I want to build a lego pirate ship" to more vague "Gravity."

We made the moon:

We read some (new to us) books (LOVE that our new charity shop has all kids book at 10p or 20p):

We created....a slightly rotund looking Jack Sparrow pirate, who met with a giant snake.

Cleversticks. A bargain construction set from School Surplus.

And playing with shapey-shapes:

We're also trying out the MEP from Plymouth University.

It's a free maths curriculum, and so far, we all really like it. This is the first time we've looked at any kind of structure for our maths, as it normally comes from play, and it still will....but recently there have been questions coming up that I need some help with.

Although there is a lot of structure what with the workbooks and teacher handbook, it's actually really interactive, with lots of discussion and not much in the way of written work. It's answered all the tricky questions that Eb and Od have recently come up with, and it's been fun.

Never thought I would use the words Maths Curriculum and Fun in the same paragraph, but shows how far we've come.

Your Jack, gave me the giggles. I love him. Take care.
