This is a kid* who loves to bake. He is five years old and can already make shortbread, sponge cakes and now chocolate cake pretty much all by himself. (I do the oven bits, so you need not worry about him burning himself at all.) Admittedly he probably won't have any teeth without fillings by his next birthday because of all that sugar. We need to find a healthy (and fun) kids cook book. But I digress....
He gets a real kick out of cooking. He wants proper cooking equipment for Christmas - any ideas on where to get this from - please leave a comment.
There is real and definite passion within him. You can see it in his face post baking. It's like he is totally blissed out from all that measuring, stirring, cracking and spooning. He is on a baking high.
Make no mistake though. If this boy does become a Chef, he will be of the Gordon Ramsay swearalot type. Do not get in his way when he is in the zone, because he will not be a happy little cook. He will unleash his inner angry child if you so much as move an egg, that's how bad it is.
He just needs to master the cleaning up now.
*You can't read it in the pictures but his T-Shirt says "Choose Fun, Not School" which is his most favourite top.

Maybe the baking is a thing for his generation as Freya (5) is obsessed with baking and cooking and Master Chef. (ps, she is the red headed smiley one in the middle of my header).
i LOVE Lakeland. it's not the cheapest in the world but it's not the most expensive either and their stuff just seems to be really good quality and just a joy to handle... they have lots of slightly quirky and colour options on stuff, and if it's for presents thats where I'd head first, hands down.
Sainsburys also have surprisingly attractive stuff, again, pretty good quality, and pretty good price wise too.
cooking - especially baking - is a really really important skill I think. yes ok, baking includes lots of sugar but homemade stuff is minus lots of nasties that you get in shop produce plus LOADS more economical and you can talor it to any food intolerances/special diets too.
it's right up there on my list of important life skills that everyone should ideally have a grounding in.
