The government that is. They spend a lot of time tsk-tsking benefit fraudsters, and then they go and do this, or this or THIS.
If you believe we live in a Nanny state, then isn't it true that children learn from their Nanny's? And if Nanny is such a dishonest, out-for-themself charlatan, then what hope is there of the children being any better?
There are people defrauding the government of income support, which amounts to approx £60 a week. This is awful, but when you consider that MPs can claim up to and average of £135,600 in pay and expenses a year, it is paltry. Here is a few facts for you:
1) There is no limit to the amount an MP can claim for travel expenses and these can be business class air fares any where and first class train fares in the UK.
2) They can claim for up to 15 return journeys a year for their spouse and family.
3) Even if they cycle, they can claim 20p a mile for it. Tour de France anyone??
4) They can claim over £20,000 a year in "other" expenses, IE: office supplies and equipment.
5) Even if they lose their seat, they still get paid between 50 and 100% of their annual salary.
Now, I haven't even gone in to the nitty gritty of it. I know that they have voted to give themselves a pay rise this year, and that the John Lewis shopping list should remain confidential (surprise, surprise. They wouldn't want us plebs finding out they've been spending our hard earned cash on £300 toasters or similiar.)
These are the muppets who run our country. The kind of benefits and perks they get don't exist in the real world. If my husband cycles to work, do you know what he gets? Zero, zip, ZILCH.
My husband is currently away on business, and I would have dearly loved to have gone with him but we can't afford the air fares. Silly me, we should have bought them and then invoiced them to his work as expenses. You can imagine how well that would have gone down in a real organisation. "£3,500 invoice for air tickets Mr I? Lovely, and here's your P45 you cheeky b*st*rd".
These people, these cretins (I am with Billy Connolly - the very idea or notion to become an MP should be enough for the rest of us to stop them becoming one.) They DARE to attempt to dictate to the rest of us (I am referring to the consultation again, sorry) how we are supposed to live our lives, they assume the role of moral guider, when, in fact, they are living off of the very people they claim to provide for.
I realise I am not stating any thing that most of you don't already think or know, but some times I need to say it, I need to vent my anger here, otherwise it will fester within until one day, I will be standing at the kitchen sink washing dishes, and all the anger and frustration I feel at these hypocritical, unethical beings will make my head explode clean off of my shoulders, straight into the washing up bowl with the breakfast dishes, and that would never do.
Normal service will resume tomorrow.

AMEN TO THAT SISTER!
I couldn't agree more. been venting quite a bit myself lately.
i think one of the empowering positions within home education is that we all tend to question everything much more; we have taken on such a big area of responsibility for ourselves that we become more demanding of the responsibilities of others, particularly those who pronounce on our behalf! but this is a great attitude to pass on to children within a democracy, eh?! (today i am looking for silver linings!)
Hear hear. Brilliant post Kelly.
