I think I've mentioned it before, but we really love Anorak magazine. The biggest bonus for me is the complete lack of adverts aimed at kids, in truth there is only one on the back and one on the inside cover and both of these are for kids clothes.
This issue had a great article (can you call it that, may be activity is better) called "Fill in the Blanks."
This is genius. It gets the kids writing without thinking about the writing element. So, we didn't stop there. Oh no. We came up with our very own "Fill in the Blanks".
So much fun.
This is Eb's (he has a touch of the Spike Milligan about his writing, don't you think? His filled in words are in capitals)
"Yesterday I was walking with MY DAD when suddenly a DOG appeared from nowhere! It was the scariest thing we had ever seen. To distract it we gave it MY LEG but that just made it more mad. Luckily, we had brought MY HEAD which it seems to really enjoy, but then a BOTTOM fell from the sky. We all GOT BUNS and then went home. The end."
Now, this is quite violent, and very different to Od's, who wrote a lovely story about a walk with her friend Jenny...interesting how they both took the same structure and manipulated it to their own interpretation.
Mb's was pure fantasy. He went on a walk with a breadstick in a tornado...not sure he completely understood the concept.
Their blog is pretty good too, for weird and wonderful inspiration.

that is fantastic. i'm taking that idea. squirrel has just about come to a stop on the writing atm. it might kick start her again. we've got to the point where i'd be grateful for insults carved on a table top.
Wonderful. This had me in stitches. Your children have such delightful personalities. take care.
